Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) is a type of bacteria which infects two thirds of the world’s population and are extremely prominent in South East Asia. All age groups are affected and infections can occur from one person to the other and can also be transferred through poor food hygiene.
H. pylori infection can lead to problems such as ulcers developing in your stomach or duodenum. The duodenum is a short part of the small intestine that connects to the stomach. H. pylori infection is also associated with stomach cancer and an inflammation inside your stomach known as gastritis.
Stomach cancer is the fifth most common cancer worldwide and the third most common cancer in Asia inclusive Vietnam, with a 1.5 fold higher incidence in Hanoi when compared to Ho Chi Minh City in 2017.
A H. pylori infection can be associated with a series of symptoms such as tummy ache, which typically occurs when your stomach is empty, at night, or a few hours after meals and which may come and go. Other symptoms may be excessive burping, feeling bloated and /or sick and vomiting. Such an infection can also be associated with loss of appetite and weight.
If you have such symptoms you should see your doctor who may prescribe a gastroscopy to test for H.pylori infection. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Íø now offers a simple, inexpensive and most importantly non-invasive procedure to detect the presence of H.pylori in your breath. With this the gastro-enterologist can then decide whether you need a more invasive procedure or can prescribe other suitable treatment. The Breath test is also used to see how you have reacted to a treatment after the diagnosis of H.pylori was made and offers you this option instead of having another gastroscopy.
If you want an easy, simple and non-invasive test to see whether you have a H.pylori infection and to treat it before it causes a problem, please select it as an add-on item for your Health-check up package, if you already have any of the above symptoms please book an appointment with our gastro-enterologist who will explain available options to you.
